About School Shuttles

  • It is a 20-day pilot school shuttle that will run from the Anatolia Clubhouse parking lot to Pleasant Grove High School in the mornings only. It will leave at 7:45am and drop off at Pleasant Grove High School around 8:15am. Students that attend Katherine Albiani Middle School (KAMS) and Pleasant Grove High School (PGHS) are eligible to apply for a seat. Two vans will operate, offering 18 seats for students.

    • You and your neighbors make more trips to the KAMS/PGHS campus than almost any other single destination on a daily basis. We want to reduce the environmental impact of those trips while also giving you options. After many meetings with Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD), the City of Rancho Cordova, and parents like you, we decided to pilot this safe and reliable option for getting your kids to school.

    • A shuttle like this is just part of the puzzle to complement EGUSD buses. For a number of reasons, EGUSD is unable to improve bus service from your community.

    • It will be at least three years before a new middle and high school campus is open in your community.

    • Results of this pilot will inform student transportation options in the 2025-2026 school year and beyond.

  • 50 Corridor TMA (Transportation Management Association) created this program, using Journey Transport to provide a Ford Transit passenger van and professional, background-checked drivers.

    • 50 Corridor TMA: We are a nonprofit organization that helps people walk, bike, carpool, and take transit more. We have worked in the Anatolia/Sunridge/Cypress communities for 15+ years.

    • City of Rancho Cordova is funding this pilot. You and your neighbors pay a special tax with your property taxes that pays for transit service and other programs intended to reduce the environmental impact of driving in your community. The City of Rancho Cordova is redirecting funds from those special taxes for this pilot.

    • Journey Transport is a certified Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise (DVBE) providing non-emergency specialty transportation with an emphasis on United States Military Veterans who need extra assistance getting to and from medical appointments. Locally, they have contracts with the Mather VA Hospital and Stockton Unified School District.

  • Journey Transport will be driving a Ford Transit 9-passenger van (link to image).

  • Weekdays, starting Friday, May 2nd through Friday, May 30th, 2025

  • AM Schedule, Monday through Friday, when school is in session

    • 7:45 Pick up at Anatolia Clubhouse parking lot

    • 8:15 Drop off at Pleasant Grove High School staff parking lot

      • The vans will have permits to park temporarily in the staff lot

      • Albiani students will walk 3 minutes to that school building

Note: All times are estimates and may vary depending on various conditions, such as traffic and weather.

  • You and your neighbors pay a special tax with your property taxes that pays for transit service and other programs intended to reduce the environmental impact of driving in your community. The City of Rancho Cordova is redirecting funds for this pilot using those special taxes.

Families with students accepted into the pilot will also pay $90 for the one-month service. More about this cost in the Cost & Payments section below.

  • We are taking all possible steps to ensure the safety of this service. We are using a professional transportation company called Journey Transport for shuttle vans and professional drivers.  They are fully certified in California as a Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise (DVBE) with an emphasis on providing non-emergency specialty transportation. Journey shuttle drivers will comply with all traffic laws and California Education Code Section 39877, which requires drivers of students to provide evidence of:

    • A valid driver’s license

    • Favorable background checks via Live Scan

    • Satisfactory records from the California Department of Motor Vehicles

    • Adherence to drug and alcohol testing

    • Favorable medical examinations

    • A clear tuberculosis risk assessment

    • Driver’s training, and

    • First aid training.

Journey drivers will be courteous and respectful in all interactions with students, parents, and school personnel. Drivers will be neat in appearance, in good health, and wear identification provided by Contractor (e.g., an identification badge or uniform). The vans are also outfitted with both forward-facing (towards the road) and rear-facing (inside the vehicle) cameras.

Safety

    • The online application will be sent to interested families and remain open Monday, April 14th until the night of Sunday, April 20th, 2025. Didn’t get the link? Reach out to us at team@50corridor.com or (916) 234-6176.

    • Families will be notified by Friday, April 25th, 2025 whether they will be included in the pilot, on the waitlist, or if they will not be included at this time.

  • A number of factors will be considered when evaluating applications and prioritizing applicants, including:

    • Commitment to ride every day (we don’t want the limited seats available to go unused)

    • Ability to pay the $90 fare

    • A household’s current use of sustainable transportation, including whether members of the household regularly walk, bike, carpool, take the bus or light rail to get around. This is a priority because we want to prioritize families that regularly take the extra time to travel by these sustainable modes of transportation. Families that regularly drive an electric vehicle will receive second priority.

  • Families with multiple students wishing to ride will not be split up.  If one student is accepted, the rest will be accepted as well.

  • You can find carpool matches for getting to and from school at NorCalGO.org. We made a short video that explains exactly how to do it here.

Applications

  • This cost for the 20-day pilot is $90 per family (regardless of number of students in a family).  This equals 20 round trips at roughly $4.50 per one-way trip.

  • This cost is based on the average cost of gas to drive for 20 round trips from Anatolia, Sunridge, Cypress, and Kavala Ranch to the KAMS/PGHS campus.

    • This charge recoups less than 10% of the cost of providing the shuttle service and is roughly equivalent to the cost of gas if parents were to make the same trip in a private vehicle.  Here are some assumptions we used:

      • Average 30-mile round trip

      • Average vehicle efficiency of 30 miles per gallon.

      • 1 gallon of gas used per round trip

      • Average gas cost of $4.50 per gallon * 1 gallon per day = $4.50 per day (morning drop-off only)

    • This shuttle pilot is cheaper than driving alone to drop off your student(s), especially if you consider the cost of owning, maintaining, and insuring your vehicle (not to mention your time).

    • It is not cheaper than carpooling.

    • It is much more expensive than taking the EGUSD bus.

    • Fares will be collected in one payment by cash, check, PayPal, or credit card (with an additional 3% fee).

    • You will need to pay before May 2nd to keep your seat(s).

    • Your method of payment will be discussed once you are accepted into the program.
